At the Shawnee County Extension office, we strive to provide easily accessible research-based knowledge that residents can use in their daily lives and throughout their lives. Whether it’s through landscaping and gardening; 4-H and youth development; nutrition and health for all ages; addressing family life concerns; care of crops and livestock; or community development; our goal is to meet the needs of Shawnee County citizens by offering relevant, up-to-date educational programs.

As the education outreach of Kansas State University, Extension brings University resources to Shawnee County residents. Kansas State (1863) was the first Land Grant college in the U.S. charged with generating new knowledge through research and providing practical information, education and training on issues that Kansans consider important and helpful; resources to help Kansans improve their lives, families, businesses, farms, and communities.

Our staff are experts in their fields, and our volunteers are highly trained in their program areas. Our mission is to place “Knowledge for Life” at your fingertips by providing easy access to research-based information that suits your need to know. Incorporating technology to a greater degree is one of the means that we will use to ensure that you have greater access to timely information about our programs and numerous resources. I welcome you to Shawnee County Extension, and I am confident that we have resources, programs, and information that you will find useful to enhance the quality of your life.
